 Most people have heard the expression "Venice of the East" at least once during their travels. Because it gives a feeling of continental flair, it's a term tourist boards use frequently.

The old city is tightly wrapped around Lake Pichola so Venice comparisons go beyond just boat trips. Rudyard Kipling, an 1899 author, was the first to use the phrase when he discussed Udaipur. He wrote, "If the Venetian owned Pichola, he might speak with justice,'see the Pichola and die'."

The perfect setting for James Bond's Octoberopussy was the City Palace's soft, meringue-like rooftops against the green hills. The 'floating Lake Palace' was the ideal location for scenes from the blockbuster 1983. You can only view it from afar as guests cannot access it by boat.

 

Traveling across India in the heat can be exhausting due to the constant hustle and horns. It felt like I was half a world away when I got off the train at Jaipur. Despite the fact that both cities are located in the same state, it was still quite an experience.Rajasthan. Disclaimer: It was amazing to learn that the lake was artificially created and was originally made for transportation purposes, not pleasure. It was built in 1362 AD, making it more ancient than many cities in North America. So it looks pretty natural. Its unrivaled beauty attracted later generations, who built what is now called the Old Town and City Palace.
